The Power of a Daily Kundalini Yoga Practice: How to Stay Consistent and Inspired

As I review the work of our Kundalini Yoga Training students and read their essays and reflections, I’m once again reminded of the immense power of having a consistent daily Kundalini Yoga practice.

If you’ve ever practiced Kundalini Yoga, you likely know the radiant joy and inner calm it brings. Sometimes the feeling is so profound, it stays with us for hours. But as we re-enter the flow of daily life, that sensation can fade, leaving us longing for it again. While we may know that peace is only a few breaths away, the hustle of modern life often makes that connection feel out of reach.

During my first Kundalini Yoga teacher training, I made a decision that changed everything—I volunteered to open the space for early morning practice (Sadhana). I knew I couldn’t leave others waiting at 5:50 am. This simple act anchored me in discipline and built the foundation for my daily Sadhana. Sometimes, we need to outsmart our own resistance to get on the mat.

After 20 years of practice and over 15 years of teaching, I can say with certainty: a powerful Kundalini Yoga practice doesn’t require 90 minutes of asanas. Even just a few minutes of breathwork, mantra chanting, or meditation can create lasting transformation.

Scientific studies back this up. I’ve seen the impact in myself and in thousands of others—from overwhelmed parents and burned-out professionals to people experiencing anxiety, depression, or even incarceration. This practice helps us regulate, recharge, and reconnect.

Let’s bust 4 common myths that hold us back:

1. “I need motivation to start.”

No, you don’t. Motivation comes from action, not the other way around. The moment you sit and begin your practice, energy follows. The more you do it, the more you’ll want to do it.

2. “If it’s not a full hour, it’s not worth it.”

This perfectionism can be a trap. A 2-hour Kundalini Yoga Sadhana is wonderful, but a 5-minute pranayama is powerful too. Show up, as you are. Progress, not perfection.

3. “I don’t have enough time.”

You don’t find time—you make time. Define how much time you can offer. Be intentional. You’ll likely discover that Kundalini Yoga gives you more focus, clarity, and space in your day.

4. “Every practice should feel amazing.”

Sometimes your mind will resist. Sometimes your body will complain. And sometimes you’ll just sit with your emotions. That’s okay. The point is to show up—for yourself. Let go of expectations and be present with what arises.

Tips for Building a Daily Kundalini Yoga Practice

  • Journal: Write down why you want a daily practice. Set small goals (start with 7 days), track your progress, and reflect.
  • Plan: Define your routine in advance so you don’t waste energy deciding what to do.
  • Emergency Routine: On tough days, have a 3-minute meditation ready. Keep it simple and accessible.
  • Practice Non-Attachment (Vairagya): Let go of how it “should” feel. Just show up.
  • Routine: Practice at the same time and place each day—it builds momentum.
  • Reduce Friction: Lay out your mat the night before. Make it easy to begin.
  • Be Flexible: Missed a day? Learn from it and move on. Self-compassion is key.
  • Stay Curious: Keep learning. Let mantras, kriyas, mudras, and Kundalini Yoga philosophy inspire you to keep evolving.

Your Practice is Your Path

There is no destination—only the journey. Let your Kundalini Yoga practice be your compass. Show up with love, with curiosity, and with strength. Build your inner resilience, awaken your energy, and return home to yourself.

If you’re looking to deepen your commitment and study the power of daily practice in a supportive environment, our Kundalini Yoga Trainings might be the next step on your journey.

Let’s keep this conversation alive—what keeps your practice going? What gets in the way? Share your experience in the comments!

With love and strength,
Daniela

I came to fear the full moon

I came to fear the full moon

I remember a few years ago when I began to feel that my body was changing. My energy was low, challenges felt to be coming from everywhere (or “growth opportunities” as Pedro and I like to call them 😉 ), my digestion was uneasy, my sleep was generally not very good, PLUS, whenever there was a full moon I got to be almost certain that I was not going to sleep well.

The full moon generally leads to introspection, so I began to use my nights of no sleep to look inside more deeply, to become aware that my inner environment was changing, and awareness was the beginning of change. What we can see, we can transform, and that was the beginning of taking action towards a new version of myself.
